AGP #461 - ''Lil Agio''

AGP #461 - “Lil Agio”3 String Fretless Cigar Box GuitarStrings: .048BW .032BW .022BWTuned: F C fA Small Box Build from my long neglected supply of Small Cigar Boxes, the Box surrounds are Grey Ironbark moulded trims from a deconstructed TV Entertainment Unit, the Neck is Laminated recycled scrap offcuts, the Bridge is Forest Red Gum, all given 3 Coats of Shellac. As a confirmed dis-liker of Piezo Disc Pickups, I decided to take a different approach, and use an Under Saddle Rod Piezo, hardwired directly to the Output Jack, originally strung with .030NW .019PS .014PS Strings it sounded like very very harsh crap, with hum!, but since restringing with heavier gauge Bronze Wound Strings, and grounding the Output Jack to the Stainless Steel Strainer Tailpiece, voilà, “it’s all good”. :-)

  • "Thank Ya Kindly James O" :-)

  • Nice Build AGP #

  • "Thanks UJ", Yep!, love the laminated necks, might have something to do with being a cheap arse builder, and I might have to change my negative thoughts about using Piezo's, but will stay clear of the Discs, and definitely do some more Builds with the Under Saddle Rods :-)

  • "Thanks Doug", they're a bit of work gluing them up etc., but in my opinion, other than the fact they're cheap, is that they look great !!! :-)

  • Yes, on that laminated neck.   A very handsome build.  Sounds good on the lonesome whiporwill video.  High 9s.

Good story and outcome on the rod piezo.  You know, I had a recent short scale build that disappointed me.  I did several things to it including going from light electric strings to heavy acousitc strings.  Something worked.  It's good now.

  • The laminated wood neck is really impressive! It looks great AGP.
