AGP #390 - ''All~Ply

“Lockdown Build Number 10”AGP #390 - “All~Ply”(3 String Plywood Guitar)Scale : 648mm / 25½ inchesStrings : .042NW / .028NW / .019NW /Tuning : G / D / g /I recently discovered a large sheet of obviously recycled Grotty Knotty 12mm Pine Ply, hiding away in the back of one of my sheds, I have no recollection of ever seeing it before, how long it’s been there, or where it came from, but when first seeing it, of course it had CBG’s written all over it, as one of the Pics showing what was left over after this build, there’s still enough for at least one more build left in it!.This Build ended up as an experiment, I guess!, to see if a CBG Body and Neck could successfully be be built, just using shitty old recycled Pine Ply Wood, instead of all the exotic timbers so often used by us CBG Builders, and also to see if there was any marked difference in Tone etc., the only concern I had, was if the Neck would bow or not, so did use string gauges and a tuning that didn’t create too much tension. Will do a sound sample soon for anyone whose interested, to form their own opinions. As stated the Box Body and Neck are all made from 12mm recycled Pine Plywood, given one coat of “British Paints Timber Protect Gloss One Coat Clear Water Based Varnish”, the Bridge is an Ebony Piano Key and a 5.1k Open Humbucker is hardwired to the Output Jack. :-)

  • Good!
  • "Thanks UJ", agree with you where the Neck meets the Headstock, I wasn't happy with the way it turned out, I did try to sand and file for a better finish, but it wasn't working, so left it alone!, the top, bottom and sides are all 12mm, which is a bit thick if ones looking for an Acoustic sound, which I wasn't too worried about initially with this build, but!, was pleasantly surprised when finished and tuned up, that it did have some un-amped Acoustic qualities, I think the Neck did have a slight bow up originally, but is now pretty straight, I think it sounds just fine, and will do a sound sample later today, both Amped and Unplugged, so others can judge for themselves. :-)
  • All ply, even the neck! It looks better than Okay. Looks pretty good except maybe there where neck meets head stock. How thick is the top? - Looks kind of thick. 12 mm- that is kind of thick. Very interesting. How do you think it sounds? I am curious to see about the neck bowing too.
