AGP #323 - “Alpalachia”(3 String Mountain Banjo)Scale: 584.2mm / 23 inchesStrings : .024NW / .016PS / .012PS /Tuning : G / D / g /The Body & Neck is Recycled Grey Ironbark, an 8” $5 Double Ply (oil filled) Clear Drum Skin Head provides the Banjoey Sound and an Aluminium Sound Ring has been fitted for tension, the White between the Drum Head and the Birdie Sound Hole at the back is white shade cloth I scrounged from somewhere years ago, but forgot I had it until recently rediscovered. Was a little bit worried about the sound that the Double Ply Drum Head would produce, so added a Disc Piezo Pickup just in case, was unnecessary as this little $21 “Plucker” is plenty loud enough, which came as a total surprise to me! :-)

"Thanks UJ", Yep!, the Drum Heads are definitely worth a try, also thought about using a cut down Birch Ply/Lambskin Tambourine, which are as cheap as chips on Ebay etc., in retrospect I should have Fretted this one, but did purchase 2 of these $5 Drum Heads, so will more than likely do a future 3 String Fretted Banjer using either the other Drum Head or the Tambourine mentioned :-D
Wow! AGP. that is wonderful. I looked at banjo kits that had a similar, but not as nice look. The dove is very nice. Glad it has big sound for you. I may keep an eye out for a drum head.
I ended up with a paint lid banjo that plays and sounds nice. I am messing with it a little trying to learn claw hammer style. I think I lack the hand speed, coordination and minty fresh breath needed to achieve that style. but it strums purty good.
