AGP #278 - ''Pud's Piccolo''

AGP #278 - “Pud’s Piccolo”(Piccolo Block Rim Guitar) - Scale : 356mm / 14inchesStrings : .0 38NW / .024NW / .018PS / - Tuning: G / D / g /The 8” Block Rim is recycled Spruce Pine, the top is Rawhide Kangaroo, the Neck is recycled ‘Piano’ Tulip Poplar, the Fret Board is Cypress Pine, and a 7.5k P90 Type Pickup situated hard under the Skin near the Neck is hardwired to the Jack, the Skin and Timber was stained with Coffee, while putting the skin on I used a large steel block to hold it on the opposite side to which I was stretching, this unintentionally left some black stains on the skin, which in hindsight I think adds a bit of a Relic’y look to it.Originally inspired by a Shane Speal Piccolo post, but wasn’t sure about the 12½” scale, found that Ibanez make a 17” scale Piccolo, so decided to meet halfway with 14”, a common Mandolin scale, strung it with strings similar to the low 3 gauges on a Mandolin, and had big hopes as to how good it would sound, but “Alas”, it wasn’t as good as I expected, will experiment further with different strings, BUT!!, I’m open to suggestions from some of my learned friends out there in “CBG Land”

  • That woodstaining whit coffie gives it a beautifull stain AGP# ,im not the banjo exspert, but do i see a bridge on the otherside of the skin? on the one i made for the banjo sound the bridge must rest on the skin freely ,whit no counterpressure on the otherside, and maybee frets, i know Jim makes them fretless a lot so he might comment better on this one ,Good luck on the Build !
