AGP #274 - ''Kerbside Relic 1''

AGP #274 - “Kerbside Relic 1”(3 String Recycled Timber Guitar) Scale: 660.4mm / 26 inches Strings : .0.36NW / .022NW / .017NW Tuning: B / F# / b /The first build from the recently acquired “Free Cruddy Firewood/Relic Build” timber, the body I think is Spotted Gum, the neck is an unknown hardwood, also rescued from the Kerbside Pickup, in the form of a couple of Louvered Doors, the Fretboard is also an unknown hardwood, all coated with a mixture of Linseed Oil & Turps, a 12.2k Open Humbucker Pickup is hardwired to the Jack, with a grounding wire then going to the Bridge. While building, all I could see were the two bolt holes that looked like Weeping Eyes, so couldn’t help myself, and highlighted them with a Pyro Pen, as is the Neck end of the body, which looked a bit “Un-Relicy” :-D

  • Looks Great AGP# Nice Build

  • "Thanks Dave Lynas", not sure what type of wood the neck is?, as stated above it was also rescued from the kerbside pickup day, it's obviously a hardwood, is easy to work with and looks great when cleaned up, and still have enough for a few more necks.

The pins are actually 'Piano Tuner Pins' from my old trusty recycled Piano, I acquired a few years back and still have quite a few pins left, installation is simply a matter of, in my case, drilling a 6.5mm hole and screwing them in, easier to use on an angled Headstock so to get enough string angle to the Nut, not the case here!, but by a bit of thought applied when winding on the strings I did get enough angle.

Tuning with my $1 ebay "Piano Psaltery Tuner Tuning Key" can be a bit touchy, as only a small amount of turn is necessary to adjust the tension, but have found that they do stay in tune far better than most of  the usual Machine Heads I use!!       :-D

  • I love the neck too. Zither pins? How do you install pins? I've not done that before.
  • "Thanks Erasmo Coco", your right about the face on the back, I didn't noticed it until you mentioned it :-D

  • "Thanks Jim Morris", didn't know whether to highlight the bolt hole looking eyes or not!, but! couldn't help myself, but! there is a similar eye hole piece from the other end of the board.

  • Excellent! I like the looks of this one, face and all!
