AGP #180 - ''Limited Use Only''

AGP #180 - “Limited Use Only’’(3 String Licence Plate Guitar)Scale: 622.3mm / 24½ inchesStrings : .038NW / .028NW / .018NW /Tuning : GDGThe neck is recycled Cypress Pine, the box sides are recycled Treated Pine , the back is Luan Ply, Tailpiece is a piece of home hammered tin, the Licence Plate was rescued from a dumpster by my son at his work place. The build was trouble free, until I plugged it in and discovered the bloody! Pickup didn’t work, after checking soldered joints etc; and the wiring of the pickup itself, I couldn’t find anything wrong, it was then that I done something I should have done ages ago and purchased a cheap ‘Digital Electric Multimeter’, and come up with result that one of the coils must have a broken coil wire, after a few wiring changes the end result was that I eventually ended up with essentially a working Single Coil Pickup, which has a reading of 4.34k, compared with a fully working Humbucker of the exact same type used in a previous build (AGP #163) which has a reading of 8.16k.The revamped Single Coil works well, and has a good bright sound to it, whether this is due to the Pickup, the lighter than normal strings I use, or the structure of the box, I don’t know, maybe a combination of the three???, anyway happy with the fact that I rescued a Pickup, and in future will check “all” Pups before installing.

  • Thanks 'Uncle John' yes! very happy with the look of the woods, unfortunately the pics don't really show the real beauty of the "Cypress Pine Neck", I try not to disfigure or hide the features of the plate too much if I can avoid it, and this particular Pickup fitted nicely on the angle of the 7, it was going to be my first Humbucker Licence Plate git, but as mentioned above it finished up as a Single Coil.

  • Looks great.  Nice woods.  I especially like how you mounted the pickup with the number 7.

Anybody reading this note that giving a description even half as good as AGP's  is a very good thing.
