  • 306445568?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Thanks 'Jim-in-Tucson', I now agree with the use of MDF after initially thinking it was cheap, nasty and 'unholy' in the building of guitars, I read with interest a while ago that "Chickenbonejohn" stated it sounded better than Plywood, and indeed he uses it a lot in some of his many builds, I think he also said that "Danelectro" also used it, so I figure if its good enough for "Chickenbonejohn" and "Danelectro" its good enough for me.

The upside to all this is, for the last 10 years, tucked away in one my sheds was a pack of Laminated Flooring (one piece pictured) left over from house renovations, I think it is classed as HDF (High Density Fibre) not MDF, I don't what the difference in sound would be, but I will find out, because as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow there will be a few builds using it, very very soon, from memory it is an imitation 'Spotted Gum' look.

  • Thanks 'UJ', not only speaking words of wisdom!, but it also falls into our beloved "Cheap Ass" category ($24).

    Thanks 'Pick'

  • Neat!  Thinking words of wisdom AGP.

  • Nice looking piece! Funny about that MDF stuff... the term almost sounds unholy when used in connection with guitars,, but it works well, in my limited experience with it.
