AGP #122 - ''$10 Wonder''

AGP #122 “10 Buck - Wonder”(3 String Junkyard Guitar)Scale: 630mm / 24.8 inchesStrings : .044BW / .034BW / .026BW /Tuning : GDGAs the price tag on the neck suggests, I picked up this beast of a thing from the recycle shop at the local Rubbish Dump, my 1st thought was aha! "Seasick Steve's Trance Wonder", took it home added a Dogs Ear Pickup, Mandolin Bridge & Output Jack, added his supposed string gauges and tuning, but could not do justice to any of his "Trance Wonder" songs. It is now strung with C.B.Gitty's Bronze Wound Low Open G Blues Blaster strings and it sounds just exactly like what it is, a "$10 Guitar from the Dump".I resisted the urge to clean it up, but have since removed the confusing (to me any way) fret markers, upon doing this found that the fret board is a very soft plywood, which I'm thinking of replacing with a piece of unfretted hardwood, the back is moulded plastic, the top is ply, the neck unknown.I'm open for suggestions on what to do with this piece of sh!#, apart from the obvious, which is take it back to the dump.

  • challenge yourself.

make a replacement neck which turns it into something new (something weird)

  • Thanks UJ & Seth, the CBG for parts and the drum idea sounds good, but when drilling the output jack into the plastic back it did seem brittle, I do have a kick drum beater, but I think it might smash the cheap plastic back.

  • It looks good.  And the price was right.  Sat the saddle high and play slide.

  • If it were in my posesion, I would pull the neck, saddle and pickup off and use them for CBG parts. I would then attach a hinge and some cheap feet to the body, and find a cheap kick drum beater and make the body and drum (beater striking the plastic back).

    Thinking on the fly.
