Here's my fender rip off idea. The strings stay straight all the way thru the bridge. The springs (I know one's missing. It fell to the floor and is lost forever) are humbucker adjusting springs.
Looking at it next to my Les Paul style bridges and my fender bridges, it's less than any of them right now. Once I get in the shop tomorrow, I'm gonna play with ways to do it on just the nut.
Have you thought about using square nuts for the saddles instead? Those small hex nuts I would think might possibly roll... Although the string tension would probably prevent that from happening (now that I think about it)
