We had a discussion maybe a year or so ago on CBN as to how best determine the bridge location on a cigar box. The best idea from that discussion, and one which I have occasionally used is to build a fairly big diddly bow which you can insert your cigar box into, then you can place your bridge and locate the best sounding place for it on your soundboard. Once the bridge location is decided upon, you can figure out how long your neck needs to be to support the scale length you are aiming for (plus maybe 6" for the headstock). To make a diddly bow, find or buy a plank of wood somewhere, add a tuner on one end, a single guitar string, and some kind of adjustable height tail piece so you can insert and remove various sized cigar boxes easily.
Might be on to something here I was listening to pandora on my kindle and had it cranked (still wasnt loud enough) Influenced by the beer I set it ontop of the box I was working on to see if it would resonate and make it louder not much then took the lid off and set it inside got louder! then I set the lid on and it became even louder. May use this in the future to test my crazy sound hole designs before building the whole guitar.
