Hi Neil. I left the top of the handle about 1/4" above the top of the guitar, and then drilled hloes for the strings to go through. That geve me as much break over the nut as possible, but it doesn't hit the top. I'll try and find a picture that shows it better...

Hi Mark, nice build. Been thinking about a similar tail piece for my ongoing CB uke. Due to its shape do the strings catch the bottom of the body??
