  • Yep, emando builders go to great lengths to stop the flop, such as modified headstocks and string trees.  I find just using heavier strings fixes it on most occasions.  Even on my cigar box builds, I often find a string that just sounds "off" is quickly fixed by using a heavier string, for more tension.

  • Huh.  I did not know that about the low C.

  • This customer wants the standard 5 string electric setup, with that lowest tuned string in C... so CGDAE.  The biggest complaint with 5 string mandos is the floppyness of that string, but I think I found the way around that on the first one.

I keep the first one in EAEAE for some great droney stuff.  What can I say, I'm a sucker for sawmill tunings and drones.  It was dulcimers that got me into this string thing, after all!

  • Neat.  Will you double the big string?
