I made the tailpiece out a piece of copper sheet. I don't think I have any special techniques. I drew it out on graph paper first. I marked the shape on the back of the copper using a ruler and a scalpel to scratch fine lines. I cut it out as closely as I could with a jewelers saw. The outside I finished shaping on a disc sander , then a fine cut file to finish. I finished shaping the slots with files. I kind of eyeballed the inside curves with round files. It was tedious but too hard. I have to make myself go slow. File a little then Stop and look. Etc. When I hurry I always mess up. The disc sander was good for the straight sides. Hope this helps a little. Thank you for the kind comments. I really like this website for the creativity and positive support !
Thanks. This box has a nice solid cedar top. The shading on the top didn't turn out exactly like I had hoped. After screwing it up twice I thought I should quit while I was ahead.

Did you make the tail piece? And if so, some tips? I cut my own out of sheet metal and someday may want to go fancy like this one....
That is beautiful.

Ohhh, you are building some nice stuff. I like the wood grain here too.
