4 string banjer - wood top

Bonus to anyone who can identify the flowers.Banjo inspired by ones made by Dave Lynas, Jim Morris and Bjorn Damsgaard.I think I am going to be happy with this build. Currently tuned DGBE (Chicago Tuning).Could be changed to a 5 string, but I probably will leave it a 4.Needs a new bridge. (I used one I had on hand and will make one later).Nice tone, nice action. Not as loud as I had hoped.

  • I've found if the top rests on the neck through the volume will suffer. However just a small sound post under the bridge will still give acoustic volume. A sound hole will boost the volume. Either on the side or bottom will still increase volume. The top of course would give the greatest volume rise. Otherwise one of those Dan Sleep thinbuckers will raise the roof!
  • The top does rest on the neck through.  Dave and Alan are correct.  Those are blue flowers.    No sound hole now, but maybe later a moon sounds hole like Dave does.

  • Good Lookin' Build 'UJ', and I agree with Dave I think there definitely Blue Flowers !

  • Any sound holes? Those are blue flowers. Does the top rest on the neck through?
  • Thanks, Bjorn.   The bridge is a used one from a mandolin and the string gaps seem to big and the action a bit low.  Will make a new one soon.

  • The Flowers are what I call Kind and Beautiful when they come with a banjo! The instrument is very classical and pretty.I can't see anything wrong with the bridge, is it too light? The tin banjo I just made is a rattler, loud and lousy, so I shall make a heavier bridge and fasten the top tighter.
I'll wait for your next video playing that banjar!! What about a Blind Willie McTell tune?

  • Thanks, Pick.  Those are bachelor's buttons.
