3D Printed Cigar Box Guitar

The only wood on this CBG is the cigar box! The 2-piece neck has a dovetail joint and a 12” carbon fiber rod inside and is a near clone of my normal 2X4 derived necks. The wings on this one are inspired by the late Ted Crocker, but I reversed them! The upper one is an arm rest and the lower one keeps the guitar from sliding off my leg.

  • No plans to print the box at this time Andries. Then it wouldn’t be a cigar box guitar! But I may go there, you just never know.

The scale length is 22” with GD tuning and fluorocarbon fishing line strings. They will work down to a scale length of 21.5”! I do like the shorter scale lengths. Thanks for asking.

  • Next thing 3D print the BOX To ? is it still 25inch scale? or less?

  • Glad you figured it out Alan! Lefty guitars can mess with your mind! I’m not sure why Ted did his the way he did, although his CBG would work just fine, if you are standing and using a strap.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t thinking on the arm rest; it should not have extended beyond the box edge if I wanted it to fit in a tenor uke gig bag, so it goes into the baritone one now!

  • My first thought was that those Wings would make it a bit awkward to play, but then realised your a Lefty, and the Arm Rest and non Slip comments made sense. :-D
