Here's a close up of the "elevated fret" - since the string height is greater at the body, I'm splitting different sized dowels in half and attaching each fret to it's own little podium. This way I can individually tweak the string height at the fret. I'm planning to just lay in a blues scale, so 5 frets total. The plan is working well so far.

I didn't know it was against the rules, so I did it anyway - and it worked out pretty well. Just another day of making lemonade with the pile lemons. :)

Notched box too deeply which caused the neck to sit low.
Neck mounted at slight angle.
Thin cheap pine neck which bowed under string tension.
Learned a lot from this build - and even with all it's faults, it still sounds great.
I am wondering what caused it tho'. Didn't notch the neck for the soundboard enuff?
