    No. Thai. Well actually originally from Laos. Now a popular folk instrument of the North-East region of Thailand.

    I just designed an instrument with all these ornamental characteristics but I fret mine diatonic or similar.

    If you look at the one I made you can tell (I added a 1+ fret). The real Thai Phin that I make or learned to make are pretty much unplayable for any king of western style music.
