Those are good and big boxes. Good choice. Seems to me they have a wood bottom and you can use either top or bottom. Good wishes for success. I can't tell if that is an oak or a poplar neck blank. Oak is strong, pretty and heavy. Poplar is light and easy to shape and sand.
