I use a wine bottle cap it has a soft spunge like material glued in already I find them even better than the thinner beer tops ,heck being ex Navy there's plenty of beer tops and Rum bottle caps to open up a mum n pop corner shop .......
Tried my hand at making a bottle cap piezo. I've been thinking about it since the idea was brought to my attention by Jeff "Bones" Reilly. Seems to work well. I drilled a 3/16 hole in the middle of the cap because most of the piezo resonators I've seen seem to have one. I'm thinking now that I probably shouldn't have because with the hole it seems to have a thinner sound and is more prone to feedback. Oh well, I'm just experimenting at this point so no harm.

Cool, I'll have to try that. I think I may have a wine bottlecap or two around here..

Classic way to do it. Shielding piezos - even with just hot melt glue or silicone, makes them less harsh sounding.
That’s the way to find out trial & error mate keep us posted on how it works out for you .
