My take on Shane's 2x4 lap steel. It's two 1x4s stacked up and covered with "marble" shelf paper. The adhesive on one side was a b***h to work with. I'l use paint to finish the next one.

Thanks for the comments Unc' John. The "finish" is a wrap of plastic, adhesive backed, CON-TAC (tm) shelf paper printed with a grey, marble pattern. It was a misery getting it to stick to the instrument with no bubbles. I ruined one piece getting it stuck to itself. I'm still not happy over the way I got it to stick (it didn't take well to the corners) but it looks good from a distance. Next one gets painted. Oh - I got the shelf paper from Amazon if you want to try it on a build. I think it will work better if you don't try bending around corners.

That looks awesome! Super idea.
Thumbs up!
cool.
Very nice! You could have told me it was really marble and fooled me!
Sure looks like marble. If I did it, it would look like bubbles.
