  • Hi Wichita Sam,

Thank you for the reply - it is always nice to know the story behind the build.

    Regards,

    David

  • Hi David,

thanks.... ideas, mostly are "slow cook"... I've had this box for this customer (not charging him, it's a "thank you build" to a cigar store owner who had been very generous) for months.  I finally got to the "I gotta do something" phase and set it in the open on my work bench.  I started scrounging in my parts ben and found that crocker pickup.  I also found the laminated neck blank that had been untouched for over 6 months (hint, over build necks, they can come in handy)...

From that start, the shape of the box, was the gensis for most of the design detain.  the headstock is the shape of the box/inverted, the pickup surround borrows the box corners.... the rosewood for the bridge, pickup surround and control plate come from the TCrocker pickup spool wood.  That split bridge was, well, just had to be.  I built is as a one piece first, but it looked too heavy, so it became a split bridge.

for me building is performance are.  I usually have a vague idea, but the final form changes again and again and again, especially on a special build like this one.... I'm just too ADD-ish to sit down and plan everything out.

    the best,

    Wichita Sam

  • Excellent looking CBG - I especially like the split bridge, angled pickup surround and box shape.  It takes the cigar box style to a new level.  Do you sit and plan it first on paper or have you built so many now the idea just comes when you get the parts in front of you?

    Regards,

    David
