To make the table top flush with the side of the blade to prevent the 1/4 strip from going down the hole, I cut a piece of plywood and screwed it to the top of the table, and put a wooden fence 1/4 inch from the side of the blade.

Good solution, Dan. I have that same tablesaw. I hate the miter gauge slots and blade insert. Wish I had my old Craftsman back.
