  • Sorry, technically challenged here.  Someone earlier posted pics of knives made from straight razors.  I make mine from reclaimed files. Depending on what part of the Northern US or southern Canada you are from, crooked knives, macotaguans, beniketighenigans.  Basically a one handed draw knife used with palm up, thumb to the outside, pulled toward your middle.  Safety is in the technique, you Do Not use your elbow and therefore, don't gut yourself.  Traditionally used for making canoe paddles, snowshoes, ax handles and useful tapered wood stuff.  They were used in similar situations to where a spokeshave, drawknife, or plane would be used, except you could make your own at home with whatever you had at hand.
