To answer your questions on construction here are three photos.I use a heel when I do a joint like this where the neck portion inside the box is full depth.The joint is only tapered because I think it looks better.
The top and bottom of the neck are relieved inside the box to allow the back and front to vibrate freely,the neck being glued to the box at the joint,tail and two ends of the base.This is another licence plate like No.64,the plate being so I don't see any problems screwing on a back
