We just had a great thread about the (not) use of Gorilla Glue (not going there) which lead to how to secure a fretboard and some methods to keep the fretboard from shifting while gluing. Here are some suggestions/techniques that I gleaned from the o
Hopefully this will be a long running collection of easy to view diagrams of CBG picup wiring. If you have a NEW or unique diagram please post it here. PLEASE, if you reply to a post with a picture already in it, please remove the pic as to not dupli
I have a bunch of signatures on my CBG. Johnny Winter, Jimmy Vaughn, Mac Arnold, George Thorogood, pAt mAcdonald, Bob Margolin, etc and all of them are written in Sharpie marker. Sharpies are great in that they are thick enough and can be applied to a
Wanna know if anyone has used a volume pot (NOT tone pot) as a blend between two pickups. (+) from one pup to Lug 1, (+) from another pup to lug 3, Lug 2 is (+) out and casing is ground for the wiring.
Right now, I have a 6 string electric, 2 humbuckers that can split between single and dual coil, a set of switches to control them, 2 tone pots, one 'blender' pot and one volume pot.
The issue is with the tone pots: I get no change in tone until a
I'm currently reading Bill Jehle's One Man's Trash and it came to me in a startling epiphany -- we are making history in the sense of [modern] Cigar Box and homemade instruments. Do you guys realize that? Most all the references Bill cites
So making a radius is not easy for the... tool challenged. That is, if you don't have the right tools and we all don't at one time or another. So I devised a clever tool to sand down a fretboard to the radius I wanted.
Damn, I love this group. And the greatest thing is when we solve common problems with everyday solutions. Mind you, there are better [read: more costly commercial] solutions out there but if you really want to make your instrument in the hand made fa
I've searched the site here and have found reference to Krylon (or other brand) clear coat enamels, but has anyone thoughts on using spray enamel colors like Krylon on CBGs? I'm going to use a clear coat in any case. Thought is for coloring the neck.
Decision time. I am building a 4 string electric with a tone and volume. Two single coils with 3-way switch and the pots are 250K. I am using a single .022uf tone cap (green, polyester) but there is VERY little effect when I try to lower the tone - T
So, I don't usually make large bridges as you can see below. I make them so that they don't interfere with the other design elements or overpower the lid. However on a later build of mine, I did make one larger than shown. Under the one below I have
