  • Hi Nobby, if you email me your email address to darren@deadmensspex.com I can send you some box pictures across.

    Cheers

    Darren

  • My pleasure. Please tell me how it works out. Enjoy, Keni Lee

  • Yes Nobby. Excellent suggestion. GDgb tuning gives you tones 1513 from the G major scale. A great way to extend 3 string CBG tuning: GDg 151 tuning onto a four string CBG.

    GDg tuning: http://youtu.be/aGX3bWHSHt0

There are limitless ways to string and tune a CBG, but in general I use fragments of the full 6 string tuning:

Mediun gauge standard strings EADgbe tuned down DGDgbd - easier tension on neck too

    3 string: D(GDg)bd - very primal

    4 string: DG(Dgbd)

5 string: D(GDgbd) - The low G is the high drone G on a banjo - traditional Bluegrass tuning - Earl Scruggs, etc.

6 string: DGDgbd - Open G aka Spanish tuning - Walking Blues, Cross Road Blues, etc.

    4 string: D(GDgb)d - your suggestion!

Working this way is very frugal. You can really explore the Open G tuning in a varity of ways.

Additionally by simply retuning GDg to ADf# which is Open D from 6 string D(ADf#)ad you can operate in a totally different way: http://youtu.be/jVdAAuvR-k0 - Devil's Tuning Method

Note: Having the 3rd tone for the highest string is like Open C tuning: CGCgce / 151513

CG(Cgce) This fragment is actually like the GDgb tuning you suggested. The fingerings are all the same but the key is C. This tuning can be obtained using medium gauge standard strings also.

There is a method behind my madness. LOL Enjoy, Keni Lee

  • Cheers mate, I'll be in touch.

  • Hi Nobby

about the boxes pictured. I'm across in North Norfolk, so in the UK. I've literally just collected them from the auction yesterday so haven't really gone through them fully.
I have a show to get out of the way this weekend (we deal in vintage eyewear) so once that's over and done with I'll have time to go through them and takes some photo's and measurements etc.
What I can do is send you some pictures of the boxes across as I do so if you email me at darren@deadmensspex.com . Also let me know what sizes are best for you.

There are a lot of boxes. I'll be keeping some but the rest will be up for grabs (we need the room :oD )

    All the best
    Darren
  • just realised why the git sounds a bit weird on the higher frets... I managed to reverse the compensation on the saddle from how it should be. C0CK! Another job for tonight then...
