I should probably post this to another forum but I like "three strings" it has "all" the experts and few duds like me.
I have got some magnets to make a pick-up. Is it required that i have one magnet for each string or will a single "pedestal" do the job? (You can tell how ignorant I am)
I have also bought a couple of "extremely" (sort of $2 jobs) cheap guitar pick-ups with 6 "nodes" on them, do I need to modify these to 3 strings or do I just slant them to cover the strings? I thought I saw one guy that took them to bits and used the contents "under" the sound board.
It is possible that you will say "forget the cheap pick ups". That will be OK by me.

Hi all.I am the new guy on the block here.I made my first pickup the other day and guess what,it works.I am no expert here but from what I hear you need one node per string.I just used nails with a top and a bottom made of thin wood.I cut the nails and used the head part of the nail for the top of the pickup.I just kind of eye balled how tall to make the pickup and cut the nails,I think mine was about 1 1/2 tall.I used a bar magnet that I glued to the bottom of the bobbin that I just made.I made sure the magnet was touching the bottom of the nails.I then wound it by hand boy was that fun.About an hour and a half later wala my first pickup and sounded pretty good.Next I want to make a humbucker. Can't wait.I hope this will help you.If I can I will help any way I can.Like I said I'm no expert just learning as I go.See ya! PS Listen to some old delta blues music today it cures head ach, heart burn, skin rash,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.
