violin guitar!!

at last I managed to get one very cheaply off ebay for £3.50.

look like it was an old school violin it has a no painted on it..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/violin-/301191033066?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=EjMzgdHFvdoQ%252FP8X%252BPM6O7mZlGY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I want to make it into a 2 string bass or maybe 3.

if I go the 3 string rout I may need to put a truss rod in.

I read some where that some one used a flat bar instead.

don't know whether this will work or not?

tried to find info on how to put the neck etc through and fitting the pick up and jack plug.

how do some of you guys who did the violin guitar get it done??

not sure if I should go the fretted or not.

I already have the bass strings off my other bass guitar that I recently sold,I put picklo strings on that.

so the bass strings that I have are new.

getting into the body ,I was thinking maybe drill a hole at the base and put a part threaded rod straight through into the new neck. the rod I could use a 8mm and machined one end down to 6mm and thread it  a nut and washer at the neck.

but I still have to get inside.

any ideas info's etc will be greatly appreciated.john

  • You don't need that many tools, John.  The worst thing about violins is getting the neck angle right and lining up pickups. They're fairly fragile once the back's off.  What size violin is it ?

Measuring the body length of the violin, 14-inch is full size, 13-inch is 3/4, 12.5-inch is 1/2 size and 11-inch is 1/4 size.  Bigger is better for CBGs - bigger angles to sort out but more space to play with.

    • from the base to the end of the body(not neck) it is 14"

that's why I don't really want to tackle it. the other cbg's I will make myself but I would prefer some one else to tackle the violin.I don't mind paying as long its not to expensive.

I'm in no rush.would like this one to be a 3 or 2 string bass with a decent pick up.

if 3 string then fretted ,2 string then no frets.also the tuning neck I would prefer the hofner style rather than the violin cut in two.I've got the bass tuners and strings these I can send along with the case.

if your will to do this for me just pm me the price.thanks

  • mmmm no body knows eh?
