Saw today that Gibson have filed for bankruptcy.
Hope that doesn't mean the end of the name.
Maybe it they made CBGs they would be still going!!!
Note to chairman "Bring back the square red Gibson played by Bo Diddley."

Apologies for the error in guitar maker, thanks Chickenbone John for correcting it.
The Gibson name won't vanish, but they have got an uphill struggle. Chapter 11 bankruptcy still leaves them able to trade, but they have suffered from some very poor management, marketing and design decisions. Making a good product isn't enough to guarantee success. Bo Diddley's square guitars were made by Gretsch - still being proudly made...in Japan, China, Korea and Indonesia!
Reading the various reports of this on the web, it seems like a a typical of forgetting what your primary purpose is and thinking that because you are successful at making guitars you can diversify and trade on the brand name. The reports seem to say that Gibson is trying to get rid of all the non-core bits that were someone's great idea that never came to fruition.
Sad, especially for the dedicated people working for Gibson, but perhaps a lesson for the rest of us
