I'm doing a long program tonight.  The venue is a restored turn of the century bank... expecting @ 1oo.  about 2000 square feet.

Here's my rig

# 1  - Old Peavey 100 watt powered mixer, 4 channel

#2 - 2 old Crate PA Speakers... rated 200 watts each

# 3 - Fender Super Champion WD , tube amp.... with line out to PA

# 4 - home made stomp board with tamborine bells inside (can be miced thru pa if needed

# 5 -- collection of effects  ( Behringer Reverb to help vocals, tube driver for piezo equiped CBGs and a Boss Sustain pedal to fatten up solo')

Pure on a budget set up.... either Craigs List buys or "backroom" deals from some of my guitar store friends...

  • By the way, the box to the right that my mixer sits on has a power strip mounted on the back of it. I just run one cord to it and plug everything else there. Also, my foot stompers and vocals run through the mixer to the PA- I think I got the idea to do that from you on a different discussion if I not mistaken, so thanks!

Yes Sam, it is slanted. I have a discarded cbg neck on the front side and little rubber footy thingy's all around so it doesn't slide while stompin'.

We should do a show! I think the half way from me to you is St. Louis.

    Joker,

I like your "box board"... if it slanted? I'm looking for a power source to power all the stuff.

What's half way between you and me? We ought to meet in a strange place and do a show....

Wow, nice set up. Looks like it could really handle a good size venue. My set up has turned out very similar Sam. One of the things I did was permantly mount my effects onto an old cabinet door along with my foot stompers

  • lj, haven't heard the old Champ, but would guess that this XD is pretty much the same on the tube side. Sounds great "clean" and distorts nicely with you drive the gain. The only problem is that it only has a 10 inch speaker... If I keep it for gigging, I buy or build a 2x12 cabinet. Run the the 4x12 Marshall cabinet in the background, it OWNS the room. If has some mods, but I like it best clean...

Nice setup Sam. I hooked up with a vintage super champ at a yard sale for 100 bucks last week! best amp purchase I ever made. I havent heard the XD yett. Is it unbelievably loud? and is the tube overdrive amazing like my vintage one?

  • Thanks,,, I'm big on craigs list.... I never paid more that 1/2 for anything.... the PA set came for a Guitar Store's "backroom"... the sell some of my stuff and give be really nice deals... the Fenda amp is less that 3 months... a guy was dumping it to pay builds... That Maarshall 1/2 stack I got for about $400 off retail and was less than 6 months old.

the gig was a lot of fun... almost 100 people filling a back lobby... very appreciative....

Looks good. I used to have one of those Peavey PA systems, they work pretty good. I'd bring along backup everything because I had equipment fail immediately before a show before.

How did you get this gig? I'm looking for performance work. I'm wishing you luck but I don't think you'll need it, you'll do fine.
