  • Thank you guy for the help. Now on with the building.

  • Apologies for the metric but I use measurements if 5mm from the edge at each side if the nut (so roughly 12.5mm between each string, and a string spacing of 14mm at the bridge. I feel this makes it easier to play with the right hand, particularly fingerstyle!
  • I've always gone 1/2", which leaves about a 1/4" on either side.  Works for my non-trained hands, and my friends that play seem to do just fine with it.

  • Really just depends on what is comfortable to play. One of the real advantages to building the first couple guitars with a piece of all-thread for a nut and a bolt for a bridge is you can make adjustments easy and learn what you like before making a less adaptable nut and bridge style as in a traditional guitar.
  • Spacing can be from 5/16" to 3/8", but also need to consider how far from the edge you want the outside strings to be. A fair distance from either edge is about 1/8" to 5/32". But ultimately it is up to you and what feels and plays good

  • I almost always go with half an inch on either side.
