Hey CBG'rs

I'm sure someone else has discovered this too. While cleaning out my garage I found a very old (Probably over 20 yrs) Realistic (Radio Shack) Dynamic Microphone you know the old ones for the cassette recorders with 2 plugs on the end One for mic and the other to start and pause your recordings.

Well I popped the head on the side of my work bench and POP! goes the top and there was this heavy Microphone head marked "Y34 6" Dunno what that means. I added a 1/4" Mono Phone jack eliminatng the On/Off switch and dropped it into my "BLACK WIDOW" CBG and WOW is that thing is loud! So, from now on when I need a PICK Up for a CBG I'll go to Radio Shack and get their $9.99 Dynamic Microphone and dissect the tip from it. I'm sure I could add Volume and Tone but for now full blast is good, The AMP has a volume knob already anyway

I attached a picture of the Mic Head Looks like I may need to drill a 1" Dia hole for it and hot glue it in place?!

p.s. good to see you washed your hands MZ!!
  • I also discovered the same thing this past week. I was playing around with a microphone build following after (Low-Fi Mike for Harpin' & Winin' by werner) and found the same thing. I am playing around with an 8 ohm .25 speaker (very low, but not bad for sound) trying to make it into a microphone by simply attaching some wires to a 1/4 inch jack then attaching it to an AMP. I would think the same application could work as a another type of pick-up. I will actually try this out in the near future.

  • I'm a beginer, I'll get my Daughters boyfriend to do a quick video and i'll post it here. He actually had my CBG for the last 4 days. I just went and got it today to add the electrics to it. He'll have a blast with it now that we can HOOK IT UP!

  • I used a old speaker on a diddley bow I made....it's works ok....it would work better for something hollow like a cbg...but it's kinda a proff of concept type of thing that just hangs on the wall....as far as pld phones go on microphones Bob Log has his cool helmet phone mic setup he uses and it's really raspy. I have a old cb mic I wired to a jack so it could be used as a mic, but does not sound that great....good find though, it's always the small things that you discover that make you grin from ear to ear.

  • The pickup in the first picture(s) is now installed in my first CBG and the fact that I drove my wife nuts playing with it all day makes it even better! HERES HOW I DID IT...

    LOOK KALMARIO, NO BLOOD! **MZ**
