I found some scrap Honuran mahogany and figured I could use it to frame and back a license plate CBG, do they need a reso in them as well to get the twang of the reso or does the license plate provide satisfaction. I could find a tuna can or something to add it in if this is needed. I also thought I could ebonize a oak finger board with steel wool soaked in vinegar to give it that black look. Cheers Ron. P.S. I keep asking this stuff as I am collecting things to build some CBG while I wait for some warm weather. I have the pars for a straight 4 string box and a piezo pickup so far. License plate and /or reso in progress of collecting. Also I was wondering what makes the CB Banjo Banjoie as it looks on the surface to be the same as the CBG other than the 5 th string.

  • Mine do not, and I get a bit of a reso sound....I like it, because it is not all in your face reso, just a little bit of a banjo crunch thrown into the mix. My new box is just a 2x4 box with a plate on front and back and one of my transformer pickups sticking to the top plate. It was working great until when I was testing things out my 1/4 came un sodered. I will have it up and runing this week.
  • Thanks W. Sam, I can go with that and then if it does not walk the walk I could always choke down a can of tuna and add it in as a modification. Cheers Ron.
  • Many license plate reso's indeed have cones of some kind (either manufacturer or repurposed)... This youtube is an example of one without that gets that twangy reso sound...

    the best,
