I was thinking of using a Tune-o-matic style bridge for my first CBG, because I have one laying around. Any tips on how to mount it? I can't seem to find out how big to drill the holes for the studs.

Re : It's going to be a six string so I figured I would have to strengthen the lid anyway. Would you suggest just some x-bracing on the lid heres what i do if i'm making a six string with bolt on neck , glue a spine down the middle of the box juju.
Most all the ones I've seen are as Randy describes; a solid-body guitar with a cigar box wrapped around it. That's what I plan to do...
Put a solid chunk of lumber down the middle of the box to bolt the neck, pickups, and bridge to. You'll have to relieve the area for the pickups to get the right height from the strings.
Mmm, 6 string cbgs are something Iv not done yet... my guess would be a solid lump of wood inside the box so that in essence you are building a square shaped solid body, with the box serving just as decoration. Thats what I would do. Plenty guys here build 6 strings often though and they may know better... ChickenBone John springs to mind, I think Fernando did one too, and theres always Brian the Bairfoot Cajun or Ted... in fact, I reckon by the time you get to reading this, you'll have more answers than you need!
Thanks for the help. I already have the studs out of a donor, but no longer have the guitar body. It's going to be a six string so I figured I would have to strengthen the lid anyway. Would you suggest just some x-bracing on the lid?
I guess you already have the studs out of the donor guitar? Or youve bought some replacements? I just raked through my drill drawer until I found one a mm or so smaller. I use a g- clamp to press in such things as its more delicate than the 'big hammer' method :o)
Iv not used a tunomatic on a cbg but I would guess you would need to strengthen the box lid a bit.
As for the spacing etc, I laid a piece of paper over the donor body and marked everything from there - neck placement, bridge holes, pick up etc, then you know everything is more or less in line.
Sorry its not the answer you asked for, but hopefully it will help!!
Good luck
