I just have to say, this site is so damn much fun. There's always something interesting going on, in addition to the river of information inside. It's impossible to look at CBN for just a few…Continue

Hal,

Give it a rest.  "The Netherlands" is the official name for the country, but "Holland" is common usage refering to country, although specifically to a region.   I suppose you're going to bomb Brits because their country can be correctly be refered to as England, Great Britian and the United Kingdom?

Instead of bombing away with your insults, why don't you do some research?  Wikipedia is easy to use, with a lot of interesting articles and .... pictures too! (just kidding!  funny?  no?  no sense of humor?)

Who cares how people name cites?  Maybe something gets lost in the translation.  Who cares, except for people who INSIST on insulting others?

Pilgrims slaugthering Native Americans?  Certainly the unintended plagues of small pox, etc. killed many Native Americans, but peaceful relations remained from 1620 to 1675 when disputes over land led to 11 years of conflict.  (By this time the inhabitants of New England was a mix of persons and not exclusively "Pilgrims").

The purchase of Manhattan is often referenced as the thieft of the land from the Indians, but with a seemingly infinite expanse of land to the West, all reports suggest that the Native Americans believed that they had gotten the better part of the deal.

Now you spread the span of insult spewing to include the Irish.  At this point, no one has to call you names.  You have done more damage to yourself than anyone could have done.

Crikey!

Wichita (shaking his head at the obsurdity of this whole "conversation") Sam

Allan, if you hadn’t started with the “pity” reference, I’d let it go, but you made it a personal assault.

I’ve never met anyone with such thin skin.  Your arguments are specious and unrelated to the issue.  Who cares about where the pilgrims left from?  I suppose colonizing Dutch didn’t slaughter Native Americans?  How about how the Dutch swindled them out of Manhattan?  You either don’t know your own history or have very selective memory. As to your references about the Iraqi war, once again I’ll just say that you don’t know me or anything about me, including my politics.  You call me a “redneck”?  You have no idea what you’re talking about.

And by the way, The Netherlands? Holland?  Which is it?  You can’t even make up your minds about what to call yourselves!  Add to that that you are “Dutch”, not “Netherlanders” or “Hollanders”.  Maybe you’re Hollandaise.  If you’re so proud to be a Dutch citizen, why not renounce your American status?  And what the hell is a “Hague” anyway?  We don’t have to call our cities The New York or The Chicago.

And since you want to call me a redneck, let me say that the Dutch are a bunch of cheap, wishy-washy, wooden shoe wearing, cheese eating, tulip growing bunch of sissies who live in windmills and love prostitution, drugs and pornography.  Even the Irish laugh at them, and as we all know they’re just a bunch of potato eating drunks.

Sam is very right Hal,   you are why I find red necks offensive..  For you information, I served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war, with honors, I also served in DEA and ATF all with honors the list goes on .. I am an American Citizen and the Dutch have given me the honor of also having their citizenship.

Did you realize that the pilgrims actually left from Leiden on their way to the United States. or the fact the the American bill of rights originated in the Netherlands? As for the coffee shop..  most of the dutch don't use them they are no big deal..  they are trying to pass membership requirements for their use,, this is to try and curb the US citizens running over here to use them.. most of the dutch don't use them.

Military,,  Well Sam is right,  did you know that one of our soldiers killed and Iraqi citizen under questionable circumstances and he had to face trial for murder..  yes it was murder and he was convicted and is in prison right now. Just because you are in a war theater it does not give you the right to commit murder..

Cowardice oh my gosh Hal you have me shaking in my shoes,, How do You justify the 200,000 people murdered by US Bombs in Iraq because of Bush wanted to be a heroic war time president? That was nothing more than a private war. have you seen the price those innocent people had to pay? We are not counting the American service men who died there or are disabled, missing limbs emotionally destroyed.  You have never bothered to look at the effects of war.. When will we ever learn, when will we ever learn,

Hal I really do pity you,  and I also am proud of Sam standing up and defending the Dutch.

Colin,

You have a great point.  Can you imagine this exchange on almost any other on line community?.... A flame war with the bleeps and the Sh*ts and the GDs to the max with people walking away.  Hal doesn't know/can't believe that I sympathize with the issues he raises in general.  But we all live in the particular/specific.  I come from a place where I live to help hurting people, no matter who it is that's hurting and in great measure whether or not they
"deserve it".  If you think about it, the Allies won the war in Europe with army, air and marine forces, and then secured the peace by helping rebuild the very nations that had tried to destroy us and our friends.  American can and should be proud of our military might, but we probably should be as proud as are willingness to help people in need. (Can this go to far?  Of course, but that's for smarter people than I to figure out.)

Anyway, to all peace....and a prayer for the day when differences can be resolved by other than the spilling of blood and the kicking of asses.

Hal, just think about it, you might be considered a catalyst to the very definition of this group. Many were able to rant and get things off their chest in a very direct yet indirect way. Raising passions and boiling blood. Punches were not pulled and even managed to be expressed with no curse words. The great thing about this that many could agree with, is that if we were in a different country all our online communications would be moderated by the government not by our peers. And even with its issues, America is a good place to live.

What started out as something humorus turned really ugly.  If my words offended anyone, I sincerely apologize. although I do not apologize for my opinions.  Like bellybuttons, everyone has one.

I think everyone should re-read the header of this forum:

What are you passionate about?

I make no apologies for believing the United States is the greatest nation in the world (if it wasn't, why do so many people want to come here?).  It was the United States that saved Europe's ass in World War II, that kept the Soviet Union at bay during the 50's to 80's and now is expected to be the world's policeman.  I'd like nothing more than for all US troops stationed around the world to come home and all our foreign aid cut off to those countries who use it against us, who burn our flags, who protest our efforts to bring basic human rights to those who's own governments oppress them, and those who just expect a handout when those resourses could do so much for the citizens here.  I'm a big believer in charity - but for those who deserve it.

I stopped feeding dogs that bit me long ago.

I've had enough of this.  End of rant.

I like pie.  Really, I do.  Whenever my wife asks me what kind of birthday cake I want, I say "blueberry pie."  Blueberry pie is the best kind of birthday cake ever.

id rather be a 'dope smoking coward' than a xenophobic 'usa usa' chanting moron.

its a big world out there, and it doesn't revolve around america like some seem to think. soldiers, regardless of nationality, fight bravely for their countries and should be treated with respect at all times. xenophobia is just...ugly

"You do not live the United States, so you have no standing when it comes to criticizing what I or anyone legitimately living here has to say. You can only dream about a life here.  You were in the military?  The Netherlands even has a military?  What did you do, sit around smoking dope in your “coffeshops” all day?  Remember, since you have “the guts to say no to war and killing” (read cowardice), if it wasn’t for the strength and military power of the United States, you’d be living under a swastika now."

Sam, I just learned something. I had no idea what Rastus and Liza jokes were. But now I do. And knowing is half the battle. Little G.I. JOE reference there. ;v)
