Don't know if I'd call it a build, i had this body and I originally put one of my porch rail canjo necks on it, came out at a 39" scale. I normally play them with a slide, but the flat area was so much fun, I got a piece of 1x3, and made a 35" scale neck.

Anyhoo, since I lowered the nut from a lag bolt to a machine screw I have a string rattle problem, so I'm looking for string holddown ideas, thinking maybe washers or bottle cap or maybe some small bar thing? What y'all been using?

Geez guys...I just started what I thought was a discussion and I actually sent a message to everyone.  Sorry, you don't have to be smart to be me.  Anyway, here is a bass build I quickly did for a festival I attended this week.  Will answer any questions you might have.  It turned out well..sounds good and plays good too.  David at Po'Boy GuitarsIMG_0129.JPG

My first bass... I'm so-so on it. It feels good to play, but I think I need to work on the nut and bridge some. The notes get buzzy some...

Yes, piezos are passive. But even with mag pickups, there isn't a direct physical connection between the electronics and the strings. That is where electrical interference gets weird. The strings, wires, anything metallic act like an antennae, and will pick up things like the current flowing through florescent lights, radio signals, etc. and transfer that to your signal path.

If you have the brass of the piezos connected to the jack ground lug, then when your patch cord is connected to your Zoom B pedal and so on, the ground link should be connected throughout the signal path to the amplifier. There may be a different issue causing the static, like a loose patch cord, for example.

 Don't know much about electronics, guess I thought piezos were passive and therefore no 'current issues'. I'll get a ground to the bridge asap!
