You are right on Brian! It is a mystery how we can play so many different songs with only one finger chords. There is a reason they are called “power” chords.
The many mysteries of one finger…..
I appreciate the high praise Uncle John! I do enjoy learning new tunes or ones I’m not real familiar with, and this is one of them. The Slingers stretch me regularly. I try to get close, but often the phrasing of some lines on songs just doesn’t come natural to me, so I go with what works for me and you end up with the Doug Thorsvik version. I also don’t do slow well!!! Hopefully, steady means predictable which means others can play along easily, that’s the goal. I did enjoy learning this song and hope it will be chosen again by the group.
I appreciate your observations Kale! It is quite remarkable what music can be played on a humble 3-string CBG. Glad to hear Clapton puts us into the “serious” music category. We do Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah too; I wonder where that puts us? …
I really like the instruments and play on this one. Good vocals too. I like your steady style and the way you almost always sound like Doug T. and resist trying to imitate the original artist. This one is a keeper.
The Slingers strumming out some Clapton. Wow. Now if someone says you can't play "serious" music on a CBG... they need to watch this vid.
Thanks for watching Ambrose! Just got back from our first Slingers meeting at the library in almost 2 years. It was awesome to play in the same physical space together: 24 songs in 90 minutes, what a blast.
Wonderful Clapton cover Doug and Slingers!
