Its such a debate what really separates one from the other. But basis of most of it is thumb on downbeat, and have your fingers like your holding a credit card in em and slap on the off beat. You should check out some banjo rolls...theres some lessons on youtube. The one dock boggs used alot is a favorite of mine. Cbgs and banjos are pretty closely related.
Thanks Jason. This is my latest build so I've not had as much chance, and I'd never tried flailing before, but I'm trying to teach myself the Civil war fiddle tune "Kingdom Come" in a flailin' style, so once I've mastered it I'll post a vid.
