Jim Morris, he isn't able to play it yet. He's too busy banging it around as he pretends to play it, or severely de-tunes the strings because he wants to turn the tuner knobs. My son is around 48 inches tall (if not slightly taller by now) and about 50 lbs. He's really about the size of a 6 or 7 year old. If in doubt you can always go to a 23 or 24 inch scale, but I personally wouldn't go shorter. I wanted something (if it survives til then) he could learn to play later if he's interested.

I hear you! I made my grandson a uke last year and he decided it would work pretty well as a hammer. I might hold off another year.

Kowabunga Dude! I've got a 5 y.o. grandson and I wasn't sure what scale would work for him. Has your son tried this 24.5" scale yet?
Neat!
Fun! :-o
