Throbbing Bessy

This is my first crack at a one string Diddley Bass. Cost $5 and made from a broomstick, beetroot tin and some spare guitar parts. I've been playing bass for years but need to perfect the technique for this thing but overall I am happy with the acoustic sound of the instrument. Any and all comments, advice or otherwise gratefully received. Hope you enjoy....

  • @ Uncle John.....G String Glenda.....ah ha ha haaaaa, now there's a name for my next build, thanks brother...!!

  • Yep, thats the next stage for this one. Not sure whether to stick a piezo inside the can or mount it on the stick....still, Bessy is a prototype, Sister of Bessy will be wired and no mistake...

  • I'm with Steve. Give it a bit of amplification and I think you will have a real sound monster on your hands. Nice work.

  • Throbbing Bessy.   Great name and she sounds surprisingly good.   I see a room full of one string canjo basses for you - all with seductive names....    Black Betty,   Bluesy Bertha, Thrumming Thelma,  G string Glenda.....   Oh...

    It shall be so fine.

  • its the worlds biggest canjo!!

  •  sounds great Mark - mike it up! (-:

  • Cheers Clock, twas fun building it, all of 10 minutes but still a laugh

  • Yep Keith, thats the next plan. this is more of a prototype but I have a pickup I can throw in there. Cheers dude
