33 sec tiny lesson -The Almost Magic 3rd fret - Read the text

On IVI guitars: GDG, DAD, EBE, etc.the third fret is almost magic.Easy six note 3rd fret pattern- can open or end a song orsometimes work in the middle.1. pluck the small string fretted at the 3rd fret2. pluck the same string open3. pluck the middle string fretted at the 3d4. pluck the same string open5. pluck the big string fretted at the 3rd6. pluck the big string open---Generally any sting played open (unfretted) or frettedat the 3rd is going to sound good in a jam or instrumental.Try it- play open and fretted at the 3rd fret strings in any order. Can also throw in a strum with all 3 fretted.

  • Thanks, Phrygian.

  • FYI... This third fret thing works on four stringers etc too, a string tuned to the third degree of the chord (the b string in open g, the f# string in open d etc) works for all these modes, but it's not a blue note like the other two are.. This btw is the secret to playing minor tunes on a major tuned guitar ;)
  • Thats my entire first album right there! heh heh heh!

  • i   have to agree that  "enjoy your practice"  seems  less  condescending  (even  when said to  someone  teaching ) - lol.

but after  seeing  the same person  say  " I appreciate your effort"   or  "although  i    appreciate your effort "    etc .

even the little things after that , scream   for a    pedestal   tipping .   ;-)

before people get too high on themselves .

i'm just  calling a spade a spade ..  you can call it a black leaf  if you    want .  ;-)

tiny took  no  offense  ,,  so   had no need for my defense  ..    but , it  was  only there if  needed .

    who  wants cookies  ?  ;-)

  • This is true, but you should be mindful that this is all minor mode stuff, ie only 'one' good trick, certainly not all of em
  • Betcha weren't expectin' all them weird comments...

  • Nice one Tiny!!

However, I fail to see how "enjoy your practice" is condescending. Keni Lee has spent more time creating free lessons for all the folks on CBN and YouTube than anyone I know. There are some people who like to have the complete explanation behind something, others don't.

  • That's what I thought, Pick!

  • tiny bits- .. photo was   just to show  more back scratching    going on  ;-)

(twas  not  dierected at  or   for you )

  • I think by the time you put 4 or 5 of these great lessons together we'll all have a great song put together.  It's like tapas for the blues.
