I am trying to learn an old timey banjo style. I'd like to be able to do claw hammer, but at this stage it is more 'Try to fake it hammer'. Like a lot of new players, I do better when I don't try to sing at the same time.

  • Back at you and thanks, Pick.

    Thanks, Dave.

Happy Sunday and week, James O.

Thanks, Rich.  I like it fine, and will keep up on short practice sessions and maybe some day try or build a skin head banjo.

Thanks, Derek.  I will take a look at that.  Jim Morris gave me some good tips for the next step or steps.

  • Sounds good Unc. Nice ring from the reso. It is hard to frail, but Patrick Costello has some great youtube lessons.

  • This is the best fake claw hammer I’ve heard in a while Uncle! I too enjoy your gospel and can’t get enough. It’s a strength of yours, from the heart and soul. I tend to enjoy this  skinless banjo, but I’ll leave it to experts like Dave, he makes sense me thinks. Next time just sing......and say you claw hammered. Last thing you need is a smart ass on Sunday night, right!

  • Happy Sunday Love Gospel Music good one Uncle John

  • I like your guitar Uncle. Doesn’t sound very banjo esque. You need a proper skin head banjer for head scratching and clawing around methinks. It’s that plunk that a skin can bring. Good guitar though...

  • Bravo Uncle. The Velvet Hammer. Nice harping too. I got Mallard singing. Sound check later.

  • :-)
