I built this back in July 2021, though its current state of "completion" is much more recent. Its body is 6x2" rectangular steel tubing. It using anything it sits on or against as a resonator. My playing is still a bit primitive as it was only recently invented but you'll get the gist of it. Named it the "rail Zither" for the steel rails it sits on to improve resonance and its general industrial qualities.

  • #2 pencil, eh? I'll have to try that. This was originally going to be a strummed instrument but striking it sounded better. It lacks the delicacy that most instruments have so it needed more motivating. its a great one for resonators though. in this video its using the steel drum its sitting on.

  • Pretty cool and sounding good!  I used to play a diddley bow lap style with slide and #2 pencil for a striker.

  • Thanks for you comments and glad you like it. I know nothing of woodworking but I've been half buried in steel scrap my whole life. also glad you liked my fiddle playing.

  • That thing sounds awesome! Such a great idea to make it out of a steel beam.
