I enjoyed playing at The 3 Jolly Butchers on Saturday, and was pleased that I didn't get too nervous.(It was the first time I'd played a whole evening myself - two 45 min sets)Getting the sound right in a noisy pub was pretty challengingthough.. Wasn't expecting it to be so noisy. Hard to get it loud enough without feedback unless I put the amp further forward, which then made it hard for me to hear myself...lots to learn!!I'm using a Fishman Loudbox Mini. Am thinking if I'm going to do more pub gigs I need something a bit more powerful...or maybe just a mic stand mounted monitor so I can hear myself better.

  • Thanks Uncle J, yeah I was proud of myself to do a whole evening of my own songs...and get paid for it?!

  • thanks Jim, yeah there were a group of football lads that were quite loud. Looked like a fight was going to break out at one point, but the landlord sorted them out! Oh no blender noise sounds like a pain : -/

  • thanks Digly..didn't know whether to remind you, but didn't want to be a pain as I knew you had so much going on!

Ah I saw that amp a while ago, and couldn't believe it would be as loud as it said. I may ask Oily about it...

  • Good for you on playing all evening.  Nice, happy sound with a good clumpity clump beat.  Nice!

  • Very nicely done Be. It's always fun competing with bar conversations. I used to play at a Tiki Lounge and the noise from the blenders making pina coladas and margaritas would drown me out. At least nobody was hollering "Freebird!"

  • Sounds great and glad that it went well !  Sorry I missed the gig as it's only 4 miles down the road :-\  Brain fade, trying to spin too many plates at the moment.

Have you seen these ?  I think that Oily has one of their amps and reckons it's pretty loud:
