I attempted to make a membrane reed recently and it worked. However, I wanted to add more notes, so I found a tutorial online that shows where to drill the holes. This is my second attempt and I'm pretty pleased with it.

  • Oh yes. I have read about that as well. They say you should tune wind instruments at room temp to insure they don't drift too much. This is all new to me though. Thanks for checking it out.

  • Another thing I learned the hard way. I spent ages one day in the freezing cold garage getting a pvc pipe instrument tuned just right. I think it was about the third attempt and I did everything very gradually to get it right. The next morning I started playing it inside and it was way off. I eventually worked out that the temperature changes the pitch quite a lot!

  • Thanks AD and Bemuzic. I can appreciate the process to tune a wind instrument now. It's not easy. LOL.

  • Cool! It's a good way to drive yourself crazy getting those holes right isn't it?! The tape made me laugh. I did the same on my hosepipe sax. I carefully worked out where to put the holes....then realised I couldn't actually physically reach them all, and taped over two of them!

  • Sounds like my Bagpipe pipe , its about the same only a reed instead of a membrane,

  • Thanks for watching Doug. Thanks for the awesome resources BrianQ.

  • Here’s a few calculator’s that I’ve used: anycalculator.com is a great pvc flute calculator cuz you can do custom calculations? http://www.anycalculator.com/pvcpipeflute.html

Flutomat  has presets that you can use if you click on the red “ i “ & scroll down, but generally works off a java script calculator like anycalculator.com? http://iotic.com/flutomat/#

  • Your musical adventure videos are always fun to watch Kale! Keep them coming.

  • Thanks for checking it out t-belly.

  • It works great! Got to get me some spare plastic tubing now!
