  • Thanks Roy. Lonnie was a big early influence on my playing so I was trying to be as true to his playing as I'm able be.

  • WOW!  I saw Lonnie in concert a couple times; you nailed it.

  • Thanks Ted. This has been on my set list for years but usually more like the Chuck Berry version. It was fun doing it as a guitar solo.

  • You may be right Bristol. I know Doug did a few recordings with Link. Something else Doug told me is that Link couldn't get the raunchy sound he was after so he took a screwdriver and poked holes in his speaker for some nasty tone!

  • I've played that tune hundreds of times but never that smokin'  Wow!

  • Wow , I believe one of my cd's "Walkin' with Link" features your former barber also ! I think Link was living in Denmark at the time he died. I heard of both because as a teenager in the '80's I was a mad Who fan and Pete Townshend praised these guys often. Link even supported The Who on tour in the early 70's.

  • Thanks Bristol. Wham is the tune I was gonna do but I already knew Memphis and didn't have time to work up something new. Thanks for the Link Wray update. I knew he'd pretty much relocated to the UK but didn't hear about his passing. Link was from a little town just down the road from me in Maryland and I used to get haircuts at his father's and later his brother's barbershop. His brother Doug was a drummer and he'd always tell stories about Link as he cut hair.

  • Great playing there Jim . Sadly I don't think the British Press mentioned Lonnie's passing at all , although a lot of us have heard of him , his actual music isn't widely known apart from the tune "Wham!" ..... Did you mention Link Wray ? He was much better known in the UK. Sadly he passed in 2005.

  • Thanks AGP.

  • Sounds Grrrrrr8, it doesn't get much better than that Jim!!
