  • Thanks Michael Lohrengel sometimes we do seem to forget the best things in life are the simple things. This was the 1st song I wrote on Mountain Dulcimer

  • WOW!!! THE EMOTION, WORDS, FEELING EXPRESSED WHILE PLAYING AND THE SCENERY JUST SIMPLY PUT WOW!!!!  - WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN OUR WORLD TODAY - ALL THE TECHNOLOGY IS NEVER GOING TO TAKE THE PLACE OF THE GOOD OLD SIMPLE THINGS THE GENERATIONS BEFORE US BROUGHT TO US THROUGH MUSIC - WE JUST HAVE TO BE WISE ENOUGH TO CARRY THOSE TRADITIONS ON AND SIR YOU HAVE NAILED IT - FANTASTIC JOB AND GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful, emotional writing and performance James!

  • I like weird ideas Bear and Dani!

  • Beautiful sound. Great song. Blessings Steve <><

  • Thanks Jim and thanks Dave. I may well build one with all the right materials and experiment on another. I just had me a weird idea for a fretboard on a softwood neck that's different to anything I've seen before. Probably not unique at all but it should work on the experimental build. Thanks again to you both.

  • My dulcimer was made of a cardboard box and a softwood fretboard. I got it at a rummage sale for 3$. It sounded good. But the fretboard was bowed so it wouldn't play in tune. I made a cedar box for it and added a spine under the fingerboard back bowed to flatten the fretboard. It is Cherry. The laminate eliminated the bow. I glued it up on a flat workboard. I made an addition to it's headstock to strengthen it. That's where it's at now. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
  • Oh, and I'd stay away from a pine fretboard/neck since frets usually don't "bite" well into softwoods but hey, experiment with whatever you've got!

Here are some strings from Amazon. Slightly different gauge than what I mentioned but still in the ballpark.

And here's a link to a very decent sounding dulcimer made from a quite surprising "tonewood" Click on "more about dulcimers"

  • Thanks again James. I'll stick to the boxes then and keep your advice in mind when shopping for them. Much appreciated.
