Nice one, Unk. Sad song, speakin of weariness, subject Townes dealt a lot with. He sand it out, and gotn rid of it (for a while), same as the old Bluesmen. Town a "Wearinessman" :)
Not to hijack UJ's vid, but the TVZ CBG tribute album is just waiting for you Townes newbies to strap on yer Flyin' Shoes, fil yer Lungs, and record one of Townes' numbers For The Sake Of The Song.
Oh, and UJ, you were asking if Townes ever did any traditional blues numbers: right there on Live At The Old Quarter, are Lightnin' Hopkins' "Chauffeur's Blues," the traditional "Cocaine Blues," and Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love." The last isn't exactly a blues, but it shows up pretty often on blues playlists.
Thanks Brick, Turtle, Joe and Steve. Townes was the man.
Turtle said it so well about his songs, "Sad with a capital S, but the emotions are universal and the songs have a timeless quality to them. And when I listen to them, I feel better about my own life. Just like the blues - which Townes was well versed in."
