This is a cheap (but aesthetically pleasing) kalimba that I bought at an earthbound store in my local mall. I paid $13 for it, then I built a pick-up into it. It sounds kinda cool when run through effects processor, unfortunately my camera doesn't pick up the sound very well.

I built one of those grounding-bar kalimbas using a small cigar box; sounds pretty good. I have an already-wired piezo floating around somewhere; think I'll stick it on there.
On the Make Magazine blog this morning, they have a video of a guy who put a regular wound guitar pickup on one.

Yea, I just got the effects machine in the mail today, I can already tell that it has lots of possibilities. And I'm planning on buying a professional level electric kalimba soon so I can really rock out on it. i think it'll be interesting.
