Just testing out the tone on my new licence plate guitar. I found it too quiet acoustically, and the piezos I fitted originally didn't sound good. I've now wound a single coil pickup for it. (Alnico 5, 9200 winds 42awg)The tune is an original piece I have posted before, sorry!

  • Thanks SEG and RTZ. I enjoyed your vid Steely! I've got a couple of days off now so toddler permitting, I'm going to break out the Line 6 and have a bash with some crazy digital effects :)

  • very nice

  • Okay Richey, you've inspired me.  I've posted a video of #15 and my attempt at the beginning of In My Time of Dying.  I should've used more distortion!

  • Richey that sounds great!  I just finished a license plate guitar and posted it today.  Wish I could get you to play it for me!  I'm much more of a power chord-slam-thrash-oops-missed-that-note-need-more-distortion kind of player.

  • Thanks very much Capo Kid and Glenn. I wind the pickups using a hand cranked drill clamped to a desk.1 turn of the handle is about 4 turns of the bobbin, just spin the handle 2000 times and you have 8000 winds :-) It's easier than it sounds.
  •  Great sounding guitar Richey and great playing , good job

  • Thanks Roger, Clock, John and Antonio. Great suggestion on the name John. Steamboat it is!
  • I've liked that song when you first busted it out. gitty sounds good too. Wyoming. home of the cowboys !
  • Richey, that git looks and sounds in the 9s on a ten point scale for license plate guitars.  They seldom of never sound great acoustic.   Nice playing too.

Consider calling that guitar Steamboat after the bucking horse.  He was one of the rodeo greats and reputedly gentle unless you tried to saddle and ride him.  I see you did manage the saddle!

  • I like it!
